Weekend Update
J. Jasper Events has had a busy spring meeting clients and doing venue visits in preparation for the upcoming wedding season. This weekend I met with four of my 2013 couples across the Bay Area (if you follow me on instagram you're probably already seen these photos). From the hills of Berkeley to the Bolinas coast, here are a few of my favorite shots from the road...

Venue spotlight - Hacienda de las Flores
Have you heard of Hacienda de las Flores? I hadn't until recently, and I stumbled upon it while researching (almost) every Bay Area wedding venue for one of my clients. It's a hidden jewel in the East Bay that has beautiful grounds and would be perfect for an outdoor, casual wedding. The property is small but it's gorgeous, and quite peaceful. Though it does have some restrictions (i.e. no hard booze, and music off at 9pm), I still think it would be a great venue to get married at. Check out some of the pictures I took this week:

Valentines Day Roundup
I'll admit it: I'm a Valentines Day junkie.
I'm not normally a pink person, but when this time of year comes around, I have pink (and hearts) on the brain. Garlands! Flowers! Cards! I find myself buying boxes of conversation hearts just to "have around the house", and I buy excessive amounts of cards to send to long lost friends. Who doesn't love to get a special valentine in the mail?
Anyway, if you're looking for a last minute gift for your sweetheart, here are a few that you can find locally. And others just thrown in for fun!

DIY canvas bag
![]() |
I've been itching to do a DIY for the blog, and I was finally inspired by a friend who is screen printing some pretty amazing things. So, I thought I'd try it myself. I didn't want to go buy a screen printing machine just yet and I didn't feel like spending $150 either (what if I didn't like the whole process?) so I looked for a few tutorials online. I ended up using this tutorial, which was pretty easy if I say so myself! The drawback with using this method (with drawing fluid) is that you can't do anything with super fine lines. But it totally works for other things. I could see making these for welcome bags for weddings, or to use as favor bags at a party. What do you think? |
| A few of the materials - fabric paint, a print of my design, a staple gun... |
| Take your fabric (mine was polyester mesh like) and staple to an old frame (or in my case, a 99 cent frame from Micheals) |
| (what it looks like when it's nice and stapled) |
| Trace the design on the fabric with a pencil |
| Flip the frame over. Paint in the image with Drawing Fluid (I used the brand Speedball) . Make sure it's wet, but not sopping wet. Allow it to dry. (I was impatient so I used the blowdryer). |
| Ta da! The final product. I also printed on a few kraft cards I had laying around as well. I think I'm hooked! |

Chalk vases from Target
A few days ago, I snagged this adorable vase from Target:
This one was the smallest of the bunch (about 4 inches high), but they had a few larger sizes (and colors) to choose from. The black part is actually chalkboard, so you can write on them as well. Couldn't you see these on a table, holding wildflowers - and doubling as table names or numbers? Unfortunately I looked everywhere on the Target website, but they aren't listed. I guess you have to buy them in the store. They do however, sell these canisters which are similar:
Cute idea, eh?
